Fused Bags
Spatial Dynamics Spring 2012
Each year, 500  billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are manufactured, used, and then discarded as litter. They take centuries to decompose and are hazardous both on land and in water. In the mid-2000s, there was a 7% rate of plastic bag recycling in the United States. I believe we can raise this number and upcycle these bags into useful consumer products.

I made these bags by fusing them together with a regular clothing iron. Once fused into 4-16 layers, the plastic hardens and becomes very durable. There is a lot of potential for this material not only in bags but in furniture and apparel as well.
